Youth Village-Time for our after school program again beginning August 22, 2011; 2:00-6:00pm   (Monday-Friday). Youth Village, Inc., 312 Pelham Road , Ft. Walton Beach , FL 32547 ; 986-0549; njbogar@yahoo.com; www.nelliesyouthvillage.orgWe offer: help with homework, computer assistance, Theater Workshops, Dance Workshops, Shelter House Workshops for children 10 and older, Arts and Crafts, Outdoor play, Cub House for children 5-7, nutritional snacks, Parents Night Out:  One Friday each month (6:00-9:00pm) we have movies, games, hot dogs, chips and drinks for the kids while the parent's have a night out...at no extra charge!  Free transportation from Bruner, Pryor Mary Esther and Calvary Christian Academy . Tuition: $35.00/week

An Open Adult Clay Class, is presented by Pat Basque, and is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:00am - Noon .  The cost is $8/Members, $12/others. 

Sculpture in clay, wheel thrown or hand building is offered on Mondays.  It is an 'Adult Clay Class', with Marcy Eady as Instructor, from  7pm - 9:30pm .  The cost is $15 for Members, $18 for others and includes the material and firing.  Call Marcy Eady at 862-0338 for specific information.

'Painting with Oil' is a great class for students who wish to learn to paint as the old masters painted, using darks and lights.  Dr. Dale Gauvin offers this unique approach to the study of oils.  The class meets at the Art and Design Center, 17 First Street, Ft. Walton Beach, on Wednesday Mornings, from 10-noon.  The cost is $70 per month for ADSO members/$85 for others.  For additional information call 244-1271.

Also at the Arts & Design Center , 17 First Street , Ft. Walton Beach , On the 1st & 3rd Thursdays, 'Life Drawing' w/live model, is offered from 6-9pm in the gallery. Cost is $6/members, $8/others.  For additional information call 244-1271.

Open studio every Friday 10-1 pm. Bring your own supplies, no instructor. It's a working artists studio time to share ideas and tips. Bring your lunch! fee $5/ADSO Member-$7/non-member.

The Photography Group of ADSO meets on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, from 7-9pm .  Each month there is a short lecture about one of the properties of photography.  The public is invited to become a member and participate.  Additional Information is available at the Arts & Design Society, 17 First Street , Ft. Clay for Children on Tuesdays, ages 7-14 from 4-545pm, supplies are included. The fee is monthly $50/ADSO Member- $60/non-member.

Begginer Acrylic Painting for Children with Pat Roberts begins September 3, 10 - 12 noon . The fee monthly is $70/ADSO Member-$80/non-member. There is a one time supply fee $10

Free dance workshops for the FWBHS spring production of Hairspray  are offered every Friday  starting September 2 from 2:30-4:30 in the FWBHS Auditorium, 400 Hollywood Blvd. , Ft. Walton Beach , 32548.  The workshops and the production is open to any  high-school aged student in the community, no matter where he or she attends school.  Auditions are November 29, and the production runs  April 12-14, 2012 .  All participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and danceable shoes—no sandals or flip-flops.  This is to learn the music and the dances, but in no way obligates a student to do the production.  For more information  call Christa Whittaker at (850) 833-3300 x1814, or  email whittakerc@mail.okaloosa.k12.fl.us.

Join Act4Murder for PEACE, LOVE... AND MURDER!-, a look at some peace-lovin' vitamin-sellin' stuck-in-the-60's hippies, at the Hadji Shrine, located at 800 West Nine Mile Road in Pensacola, on November 1.  Act4Murder, a local professional acting troupe, has been performing original comedic murder mysteries for public, private, special and fundraising events since 2003.   Hadji Temple is a Fraternal Organization supporting Shriner's Hospitals for Children. This is their 1st murder mystery performed by Act4Murder, with proceeds going to the Hadji Shrine Yoshi Committee.  60's costumes welcomed, but not required. Lost Roanoke Colony - Guest speaker for the November 1 st First Tuesday Lecture series program at the Crestview Public Library will be Lt. Col. Kirby Locklear, USAF Ret., a member of the Lumbee Indian Tribe whose ancestral home is in what is now Robeson County, North Carolina.  Col. Locklear is a direct descendant of the “Lost Roanoke Colony” whose ancestral people intermarried with the surviving colonists. Col. Locklear will discuss the Indians of Northwest Florida, the importance of storytelling, and the activities of the local Thunderbird Intertribal Council of which he is vice chairman.  The program will also include dance demonstrations, drumming, and singing.  The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with coffee and cookies served starting at 10:00 a.m.   The library is located at 1445 Commerce Drive behind the Post Office in north Crestview.  Call 682-4432.

“Hometown History Saturdays-The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center (HPCC) announces the start of “Hometown History Saturdays.” On the first Saturday of each month visitors who can show a valid drivers license with a Fort Walton Beach address will receive admission at a reduced rate of $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.   The museums of HPCC include the Indian Temple Mound Museum which is open on Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:30pm; the Camp Walton Schoolhouse and the Garnier Post Office Museums which are open on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00pm.  This reduced admission is paid at the Indian Temple Mound Museum and will allow entrance to all three museums.  The reduced rate will not apply to educational programs taking place on Saturdays.   Heritage Park and Cultural Center is located at 139 SE Miracle Strip Parkway and is open 6 days a week.  For current hours or additional information please contact museum staff at 850.833.9595.  www.fwb.org

Art Week – Celebrate the Visual Arts!!- Nov 5 – 11- Arts and Design Society is celebrating the visual arts with Art Week Nov 5 to 12.  During the week we will be offering classes painting in acrylics, oils, watercolors and encaustics with other fun projects like printmaking, mosaics and found object sculptures.  Cost of these classes will be $25 for the first class and $20 each for the rest.  Art week will have a large canvas you can paint a square on, small art works for sale etc. The week will end with an Arty Party Friday 5 – 7 PM where there will be different art activities for everyone to enjoy. “Mr. Broadway”-19 Nov 2010 , 7:30 p.m. FWB Civic Auditorium.  Michael Walters, “Mr. Broadway”, will present a one-man journey through the world of Musical Comedy as seen through the eyes of an actor who lives to entertain. Hear classic Broadway tunes from Michael's favorite shows such as Fiddler on the Roof, The Music Man, Carousel and others.  This fast-paced journey is peppered with stories of special celebrity encounters, offstage mishaps and hilarious tales about his family, who were never quite sure what to do with a show-biz kid.
