Call to Artists:     Deadline March 19,   "Masque," annual recycle show-The Arts and Design Society is calling all artists to participate in their upcoming March art competition, "Masque," open to all artists and all mediums. Artwork must be of recycled materials, in line with the theme of masks, hiding surprises created by re-cycled materials. Turn in work Saturday, March 17, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. , and  Monday, March 19, 9 a.m. - 12 noon . Free dance workshops for the FWBHS spring production of Hairspray  are offered every Friday  starting September 2 from 2:30-4:30 in the FWBHS Auditorium, 400 Hollywood Blvd. , Ft. “Hometown History Saturdays-The City of Fort Walton Beach Heritage Park and Cultural Center (HPCC) announces the start of “Hometown History Saturdays.” On the first Saturday of each month visitors who can show a valid drivers license with a Fort Walton Beach address will receive admission at a reduced rate of $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.   The museums of HPCC include the Indian Temple Mound Museum which is open on Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:30pm; the Camp Walton Schoolhouse and the Garnier Post Office Museums which are open on Saturdays from 1:00-3:00pm.  This reduced admission is paid at the Indian Temple Mound Museum and will allow entrance to all three museums.  The reduced rate will not apply to educational programs taking place on Saturdays.   Heritage Park and Cultural Center is located at 139 SE Miracle Strip Parkway and is open 6 days a week.  For current hours or additional information please contact museum staff at 850.833.9595.  www.fwb.org

Grant Writing Workshop-Have you ever struggled with a grant application? Have you ever wondered why you didn’t receive a grant? If you are a non-profit or first time for-profit grant writer, the Okaloosa Arts Alliance (OAA) and Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce can help. On Friday, March 30, 2012 from 9:30am-12:30pm the Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting a grant writing workshop at the Fort Walton Beach Chamber Board room. The cost of the grant workshop is $15 for OAA or Fort Walton Beach Chamber members and $45 for non-members. Advanced RSVP is required due to limited seating. All proceeds will benefit the OAA. The workshop will be presented by Susan Kneller, president of the OAA, a retired teacher, and an active community volunteer who has over 20 years experience as a successful grant writer, applicant, grant reviewer, and member of several grant selection committees. The Workshop will cover researching available grants, writing grant proposals, developing project budgets, understanding the terminology of grants, and common mistakes to avoid. A mini-practice writing session will be included and handouts will be provided to participants.

"Garden Muse in Concrete" Workshop,   Saturday, March 31- Artist Hanna Joensuu will  present the workshop, "Garden Muse in Concrete" on Saturday, March 31, 9:30 AM-12:30-PM at The Arts and Design Society Art Center, to beginners and experienced alike. Participants will create two garden masks and learn to mix, cure, and mold concrete, taking home their masks and molds used in class. Cost is $35/ADSO members; $40/non-members. Supply cost: $10.
