Window Gallery Display:     Month of May, 2012-To showcase the work of  local artists, the Arts and Design Society presents month-long exhibits in their studio windows, facing First Street , Fort Walton Beach . In May, the work of Larry Griffin will be on display for easy viewing. Additional information about these works is available in the Art Center office. While the window art is available for viewing 24/7, office and gallery hours are 12 noon-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday, and  the gallery, which is free to the public, is open also from  1 p.m. - 4 p.m. , Saturday. Hometown History Saturdays-Every first Saturday of the month at the Heritage Park & Cultural Center, Indian Temple Mound Museum, 139 Miracle Strip Parkway SE, Fort Walton Beach, Florida 32548. Visitors who can show a driver’s license with a Fort Walton Beach address will receive admission at a reduced rate of $3.00 for adults and $2.00 for children.  The museums of HPCC include the Indian Temple Mound Museum (open Saturdays from 10:00am to 4:30pm ); the Camp Walton Schoolhouse and the Garnier Post Office Museums (open Saturdays from 1:00-3:00pm ).  This reduced admission is paid at the Indian Temple Mound Museum and will allow entrance to all three museums.  In conjunction with this program, Friends of the Museums, Inc. will have a drawing to award an honorary Friends membership each month.  Friends of the Museums provide financial and volunteer commitment in support of programming and operations at HPCC.  Benefits of membership include advanced invitations to programs and activities, museum store discounts and reduced museum admission rates.  Contact:  Gail Lynn Meyer, Museum Manager  (850) 833-9595

"Garden Muse in Concrete" Workshop,-  Saturday, May 5, Artist Hanna Joensuu will  present the workshop, "Garden Muse in Concrete" on Saturday, May 5, 10:00 AM - 1:00 -PM at The Arts and Design Society Art Center , to beginners and experienced alike. Participants will create two garden masks and learn to mix, cure, and mold concrete, taking home their masks and molds used in class. Cost is $35/ADSO members; $40/non-members. Supply cost: $10. Family Fun Arts Fest-Come spend a free day at the beautiful Henderson Beach State Park for the 5 th Annual Family Fun Arts Fest on Saturday, May 12 th from 10am to 5pm . You can finish your Mother's Day shopping with our many arts and crafts vendors, get something to eat & drink while enjoying performances by local artists like Act4Murder, have fun doing multiple free family activities, and bid on fantastic silent auction items like a 3 day/2 night stay at the Ramada Inn. Also, all OAA Okaloosa School Poster Contest entries will be on display and winners will be announced at the Fest. OAA Okaloosa School Poster Contest entries will be accepted through April 30 th.

The 5 th annual Family Fun Arts Fest is being hosted by the Okaloosa Arts Alliance (OAA) in conjunction with the Friends of the Emerald Coast State Parks, however, it would not be possible without the generous grant from Boeing. The Festival and Park are free and open to the public all day, with parking available in the Park. All proceeds benefit the Okaloosa Arts Alliance. ADSO Luncheon:     May 23, 2012- Leigh Peacock, mixed media artist, will be the featured speaker at the Arts & Design Society's Luncheon on Wednesday, May 23. Peacock, who has a MFA from Georgia University , has also studied and shown her work abroad. She describes her work as concerned with the theme of memory, using fragments of clothing, found objects, and archival paper to express this theme. Peacock will present her talk at the Art Center Gallery, 17 First Street , Fort Walton Beach . The Luncheon will begin at 11:30 .  Cost of the luncheon is $12.
